The online campaign carried out by prospective village heads and the socialization
carried out by the committee in the Padangan Village Head Election have created a
new color in the implementation of the Padangan Village Head Election. Campaigns
and socialization that were previously only done conventionally, by using social media
in village head elections are now starting to be done digitally. This study analyzes the
online political participation carried out by social media users in the election of the
village head in Padangan (candidates for the village head, the election committee for
the village head and the voting community in the Padangan village). Also, analyze the
influence of online political participation on the level of voter participation in the 2020
Padangan Village Head Election. The method used in this research isMixed
Method.Qualitative data collection techniques in the form of interviewsin-depth with
12 informants selected purposively and through observation. Then to strengthen the
data submitted, the researcher then uses quantitative data collection techniques in the
form of surveys or distributing questionnaires to the voting public. The data obtained
were then analyzed based on qualitative and quantitative analysis.
This study found that the use of social media in the Padangan Village Head Election
was not a determinant of the election of a candidate to be elected in the 2020 Padangan
Village Pilkades, but rather as a media to support the campaign. This is evident from
the election of Kristianawati who simultaneously carried out online,
offline/conventional campaigns and money politics to gain support.
The conclusion that can be drawn in this study is that first a candidate for village head
to be elected in the Padangan Village Head Election must carry out comprehensive
online, offline and money politics campaigns. Second, social media is not a determinant
of people coming to polling stations to vote, but rather as a media to support
socialization of the Padangan village head election. Based on the conclusion, must be
more assertive to take action against candidates who use money politics and provide
wider opportunities for candidates to conduct online campaigns; does not close the
comment field but deletes or blocks the conflict-triggering comment; The
implementation of the Padangan Village Head Election can be used as a model for
other villages or the election implementation committee in utilizing social media
