Abstract
This study aims to develop a bilingual storybook titled ‘Little Hearts' Journey’ intended for primary school children with A2 language proficiency levels based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). This book is adapted from the moral values contained in the book Akhlaq lil Banin, and consists of three short stories complemented by educational games such as crosswords, word searches, and fill-in-the-blanks, in order to increase student engagement in learning. The research method used was Research and Development (R&D). Readability and product validation tests were conducted at Madinah Munawarrah Boarding School and SD Islam Al Azhar 14 Semarang, which involved students and teachers as respondents, respectively. In addition, interviews with the vice principal for curriculum were conducted to explore the need for relevant supporting teaching materials. The research results indicate that this storybook is deemed suitable by experts in terms of story content, language, translation quality, character values, as well as book design and appearance. Furthermore, students provided positive feedback on the content and presentation of the book, demonstrating comprehension levels consistent with the A2 CEFR level. This book is expected to serve as an educational, enjoyable, and character- building learning tool with Islamic values, as well as an alternative bilingual teaching material in the primary education setting.
