Abstract
This study aims to develop interactive short story-based English learning media equipped with audio narration, intended for A2 level learners in accordance with the CEFR framework. This media is titled “Kaleidoscope of Careers,” which consists of ten short stories themed around professions, equipped with visual illustrations, a bilingual glossary, and slow-speed audio narration that can be accessed via a QR code. This study employs a modified Research and Development (R&D) approach based on the Borg & Gall model, encompassing eight core stages, from initial data collection to final product revision and dissemination. The primary focus of this product is the utilization of audio narration as a strategy to enhance receptive skills, particularly listening and reading abilities among learners. Validation was conducted through questionnaires and interviews with 25 A2-level respondents and an expert, with results indicating that this medium is considered suitable, engaging, and effective. Audio narration received the most positive feedback as it helps learners understand pronunciation, contextual meaning, and enhances learning motivation. The results of this study indicate that the integration of audio, text, and visuals in interactive short story media can create an enjoyable and multimodal learning experience. This media is considered highly suitable for supporting both self-directed and guided learning processes for beginner learners in mastering English in a more communicative and contextual manner.
