Abstract
Background: Smoking is a serious global health problem, including in the prison community (WBP). The high prevalence of smoking among WBP requires effective interventions to help WBP stop smoking. Self-efficacy is an important factor that influences the success of smoking cessation efforts. Objective: This study aims to describe the self-efficacy of male inmates in their efforts to stop smoking. Methods: This research uses a quantitative approach with a case study method, involving 332 WBP as respondents. Data was collected by filling in the SASEQ (Smoking Abstinence Self-Efficacy Questionnaire) questionnaire and analyzed thematically. Results: The results of the study showed that the level of self-efficacy of WBPs was mostly high (70.5%) to stop smoking. Each domain shows moderate self-efficacy, where negative feelings have a percentage of 75.0%, social pressure 71.4%, physical concerns about smoking dependence 55.7%, and desires and urges 73.8%. This data shows that WBP feel confident enough to be able to resist the temptation of negative influences, social pressure, and the desire and urge to smoke, but social anxiety is still a challenge. Conclusions: WBP's self-efficacy to quit smoking is quite high in facing negative influences, social pressure, and the desire to smoke. Intervention programs such as counseling and social support need to focus on increasing WBP's self-confidence in dealing with factors that influence self-efficacy for successful smoking cessation.
