Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic not only causes disruption of physical health, economic upheaval
and social limitations, but also triggers various psychological problems. The COVID-19
pandemic situation causes a high intolerance of uncertainty. In a state of uncertainty is a
person's tendency to be unable to accept negative possibilities and find meaning through
healthy situations that are currently being experienced or in the future. Adults are a vulnerable
group with an increase in uncertainty during the pandemic. This study aimed to determine the
existence of uncertainty in adulthood during the COVID-19 pandemic season. This research is
a literature review with article searches through Science Direct, PubMed, EBSCO host, Clinical
Key, and Google Scholar. The range of literature publications is from 2017-2022, which is then
analyzed using a synthesis matrix. The results of the 10 articles reviewed found that individual
uncertainty tolerance can predict psychological disorders in the form of depression, anxiety,
fear, loneliness, decreased self-efficacy, decreased well-being, and decreased self-resilience. It
was concluded that the uncertainty of this pandemic period could have an impact on more
severe psychological problems in adult individuals due to the uncertain situation of the
COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, the role of health workers, the community and the family at
this time is essential to know and deal with a person's condition in the COVID-19 pandemic
experiencing uncertainty.
