Abstract

Construction projects are characterized by their temporary nature, fragmentation, high
complexity, and diverse human resources, making the transfer of knowledge among
workers a critical challenge in ensuring project success. This study aims to develop a
knowledge transfer model for construction workforce by integrating project
characteristics, interpersonal trust, media, and transfer effectiveness. A research gap
analysis was conducted through a PRISMA-based systematic literature review and
bibliometric analysis using VOSviewer. The research employed a mixed methods
approach, combining quantitative analysis through Structural Equation Modeling–Partial
Least Squares (SEM-PLS) and qualitative analysis through in-depth interviews with
respondents classified as project leaders in construction projects. The findings indicate
that knowledge transfer effectiveness is influenced by project characteristics (path
coefficient = 0.315), interpersonal trust among workers (0.187), and transfer media
(0.416), with an R² value of 0.757 indicating a substantial effect. This study recommends
an implementation strategy that strengthens cross-disciplinary collaboration based on the
characteristics of different types of construction projects: cultural heritage rehabilitation
projects require collaborative practices tailored to the restoration of protected buildings;
large-scale projects distributed across Indonesia necessitate the integration of digital
collaboration technologies; and road and box culvert infrastructure projects demand
standardized work methods. The novelty of this research lies in the development of a
knowledge transfer model that integrates project characteristics, inter-worker trust,
knowledge transfer media, and transfer effectiveness. The model has been empirically
validated and demonstrates adaptability to the context of construction projects in
Indonesia.
