Abstract
The phenomenon of actress 'involvement in the political contest in Indonesia is
increasing, especially before the elections. Actresses with high popularity often
attract political parties to vote. However, questions arise about the motives and
reasons of artists turning to politics, and to what extent their involvement affects
political and social systems. The research is aimed at 1) To find out an explanation
of the reasons why an artist can get involved in a political essay; 2) Analyzing the
motivation behind which an artist turns his back on politics.
The theory used was the classification habitat of social capital by Pierre
Bourdieu, the motivational theory of David McClelland, and the classification of
the political elite group from S.P. Varma. The methods used in this study are
descriptive qualitative methods, data obtained through library studies, interviews,
and documenting of artists who become politicians and party stewards by purposive
sampling methods. Additionally, the study also uses documentation from various
sources such as books, journals, and scientific articles to strengthen analysis.
Research indicates that the involvement of the artist in politics is driven by
several major factors: the desire to contribute and serve the community, to develop
competence and personal skills, the influence of the political party's strategies, and
to make use of economic capital as a political strategy. The artist's motivation in
politics involves using popularity as an electoral capital, expanding the range of
the network, and increasing political understanding and adaptation in the world of
government.
The conclusion of the study is based on the fact that the artist who is running
for a political contest in Indonesia is based on personal desire to achieve a positive
change in people's lives, but the artist's candidacy is being used by the political
party to enhance popular positions. Advanced research is suggested to supplement
research subjects for deeper and more specific results and to use qualitative and
quantitative methods to see a percentage of the controversy of popular thinking in
the candidature of artists.
