Abstract
This research aims to understand the ideology and dominance that emerge
in Ursula Le Guin's short story titled The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas,
which was published in 1973. The study is conducted using a qualitative
descriptive method through Norman Fairclough's Critical Discourse Analysis
approach. The short story is analyzed through three dimensions: description,
interpretation, and explnation. In the description dimension, the short story is
analyzed based on vocabulary, grammar, and text structure that indicate a power
and superiority dominance. Meanwhile, the interpretative dimension explains how
the short story is produced, related to its production background and its interaction
within society. Last, the dimension of explanation is related to the social issues that
are currently occurring. Furthermore, liberalism ideologies are also discovered due
to the events that happen within the short story.
