Abstract

This study started from the problems regarding TOEFL Preparation for Diponegoro
University students as one of the graduation requirements. The TOEFL assesses three
language skills, with listening comprehension being the most difficult because of the
rapid pace of material delivery and frequent misunderstandings by students. This is also
followed by the lack of learning media that students have in preparing to face TOEFL.
Therefore, to facilitate students in preparing the listening comprehension of TOEFL, the
researcher has prepared a learning media in the form of a book with the title “Start Your
Day in Learning English Every Day (SYDNEY)”. This study aims to develop “Start Your
Day in Learning English Every Day (SYDNEY)” as a learning media for TOEFL
Preparation.
Moreover, the type of this study is Research and Development (R&D) which
applies eight stages of the R&D process due to time constraints. It consists of research
and information collecting, planning, developing preliminary form of product,
preliminary field testing, main product revision, main field testing, final product revision,
and dissemination and implementation. An A5 book including a variety of material on
listening comprehension is the study’s output, which readers are required to finish within
a fourteen-day learning objective. Furthermore, the book has undergone evaluations of
the expert during the preliminary field testing and users during the main field testing. The
result is this book is classified in the agree category and is suitable for use as a learning
medium despite getting improvements from the expert.
