Abstract

Latar Belakang: World Health Organization (WHO) menyatakan 60 – 90 % anak usia sekolah terserang karies. Data Riskesdas tahun 2018 mengungkapkan bahwa di Indonesia prevalensi karies pada kelompok usia 5-9 tahun sebesar 92,6%. Dampak karies pada anak berpengaruh pada status gizi, intelektual, kualitas hidup bahkan jika tidak dirawat, karies akan berlanjut menjadi infeksi yang bisa menyebabkan penyakit sistemik. Pencegahan terhadap karies pada anak telah banyak dilakukan namun belum ada tinjauan sistematik tentang intervensi pencegahan apakah yang efektif terhadap kejadian karies pada anak.
Tujuan: Penelitian bertujuan melakukan tinjauan sistematik terhadap intervensi pencegahan karies.
Metode: Penelitian ini menggunakan systematic literature review dengan database Google Scholar, Scopus, Pubmed, Science Direct, SpringerLink, EBSCOhost, dan Clinical Key. Kata kunci pencarian yaitu “caries” AND “prevention” AND “elementary school”. Critical Appraisal Checklist menggunakan formular dari Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal tools. Artikel yang memenuhi kriteria inklusi dan memiliki kualitas sedang keatas dianalisis secara sistematis.
Hasil: didapatkan 4062 artikel dimana 17 artikel yang dinyatakan memenuhi kriteria inklusi dilanjutkan dengan penilaian artikel dengan hasil sedang keatas. Pengelompokkan intervensi pencegahan karies yakni penyuluhan saja (37,7% terhadap plak, 41,3% terhadap karies), Tindakan saja (18%-48% pada plak, 16%-53,8% pada karies), dan Penyuluhan disertai tindakan (14,4% pada plak, 14,9% pada karies).
Simpulan: Program pencegahan karies yang paling efektif adalah dengan tindakan saja.

Background: The World Health Organization (WHO) states that 60-90% of school-aged children are affected by caries. The 2018 Riskesdas data revealed that in Indonesia the prevalence of caries in the 5-9 year age group was 92.6%. The impact of caries on children affects nutritional status, intellectuality, quality of life even if it is not treated, caries will continue to become an infection that can cause systemic disease. Prevention of caries in children has been carried out a lot, but there has been no systematic review of whether preventive interventions are effective against caries in children,
Aims: This study is to conduct a systematic review of caries prevention interventions.
Methods: This study used a systematic literature review with the Google Scholar, Scopus, Pubmed, Science Direct, SpringerLink, EBSCOhost, and Clinical Key databases. The search keywords are “caries” AND “prevention” AND “elementary school”. The Critical Appraisal Checklist uses formulas from the Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal tools. Articles that met the inclusion criteria and had moderate to high quality were analyzed systematically.
Results: 4062 articles were obtained, of which 17 articles met the inclusion criteria followed by an assessment of articles with moderate results. The grouping of caries prevention interventions was counseling only (37.7% for plaque, 41.3% for caries), action only (18%-48% for plaque, 16%-53.8% for caries), and counseling with action ( 14.4% in plaque, 14.9% in caries).
Conclusion: The most effective caries prevention program is action alone.
