Abstract

Abstract
The research aims to describe the structure and meaning of noda and wake modality and to explain the similarity and differences in the use of noda and wake modalities. The data were obtained from twitter and Japanese website, such as yourei.jp, and ejje.weblio.jp. The data collection method in this paper is the simak-catat method. Then, using qualitative descriptive method to analysis the structure and meaning of noda and wake modality. Agih method is used to find out the similarity and differences in noda and wake modality. Based on data analysis, it is concluded that noda’s and wake's modality could be attached to verbs, I-adjectives, Na-adjectives and nouns. Noda and wake modalities have similarities and differences in expressing paraphrasing and cause and effect.
