Abstract

The aim of the study was to determine the role of the Ruang Literasi Juwana community as an effort to empower the Juwana community to improve the quality of life and welfare of the community. This study used qualitative methods with a case study approach. The data were collected through observation and semi- structured interviews. The results of the study showed that Ruang Literasi Juwana community had a role in empowering the community. In conducting the empowerment, Ruang Literasi Juwana community conducted empowerment activities for the community. Empowerment activities were carried out through book and art stalls, discussion and poetry collection activities. The activities got a positive response to the community. Social capital that was provided by the community of Ruang Literasi Juwana had positive impacts to the community, those were providing information needed by the community and making people more courageous to express their opinions when participating in discussion forums. In order to improve the quality of empowerment activities, Ruang Literasi Juwana community collaborated with Rumah Baca Kreatif. The forms of the collaboration were doing drawing activities, training of craft arts, training in farming, and making handicrafts from ice cream sticks for children. The collaboration could be a mean for the Ruang Literasi Juwana community to get closer to the community and to promote empowerment activities carried out by the Ruang Literasi Juwana community. Collaboration with Rumah Baca Kreatif was one of the solutions for Ruang Literasi Juwana community to realize the development plans for community empowerment activities in the future, namely providing a tutoring for local children and building a village library
