Abstract

The research titled “The Application of Automatization system of Library in
Improving the Service Quality in the Library of SMAN 11 of Semarang”. The
research aimed in finding out how the automatization system of library in the
library of SMAN 11 Semarang improved the quality service in the library. The
research was conducted using descriptive qualitative method. Data sampling was
done by interview, observation, and literature review. The library of SMAN 11
Semarang has applied automatization system in the form of SliMS since 2017.
Based on 7 characteristics in improving the library service quality, the library has
gained increase in quality on 4 characteristics user friendly, security, speed and
relevance of information. Whereas on other 3 characteristics, some obstacles
occurred which hinder the improvement of the library quality service which are
first access reliability. The difficulty met on the way was when error occur in the
automatization system, the librarian is still unable to independently handle it and
would likely need the assistance of the IT team. Secondly credibility, obstacle
occurs when the information revealed on the automatization is not completed yet,
thus when a user will sometime fail to find the information needed from the
system. The last characteristic that faces obstacle is competence, in this
characteristic what happens is that there is only one librarian in the library of
SMAN 11 Semarang, it makes the operation in the library hampered.

Skripsi ini berjudul “Penerapan Sistem Otomasi Perpustakaan Dalam
Meningkatkan Kualitas Layanan di Perpustakaan SMAN 11 Semarang”.
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana penerapan sistem otomasi
perpustakaan di SMAN 11 Semarang dalam peningkatan kualitas layanan
perpustakaan. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian kualitatif
deskriptif. Teknik pengambilan data yang dilakukan yaitu wawancara, observasi,
studi pustaka. Perpustakaan SMAN 11 Semarang menerapkan sistem otomasi
berupa SliMS sejak tahun 2017. Melihat dari 7 karakteristik dalam meningkatkan
kualitas layanan perpustakaan. Perpustakaan SMAN 11 Semarang mengalami
peningkatan kualitas pada 4 karakteristik user friendly (kemudahan dalam
penggunaan), security (keamanan), speed (kecepatan), dan relevance of einformation (informasi relevan). Sedangkan pada 3 karakteristik lainnya, terdapat
kendala yang dialami sehingga mengambat dalam meningkatkan kualitas layanan
perpustakaan di antaranya yaitu pertama access reliability (keandalan akses).
Kendala yang dihadapi yaitu jika sistem otomasi eror, pustakawan belum bisa
menanganinya sendiri sehingga perlu membutuhkan bantuan dari pihak IT. Kedua
credibility (kredibilitas), kendala yang terjadi pada karakteristik ini bahwa
infromasi yang disajikan pada sistem otomasi belum lengkap, sehingga terdapat
pemustaka yang ketika melakukan pencarian informasi pada sistem otomasi tidak
menemukan informasi tersebut. Karakteristik terakhir yang mengalami kendala
adalah competence (kompetensi), pada karakteristik kompetensi kendala yang
terjadi yaitu pustakawan di perpustakaan SMAN 11 Semarang hanya ada satu
orang, sehingga hal tersebut membuat pekerjaan di perpustakaan terhambat.
