Abstract

The 2001 Stockholm Convention agreement to eliminate the use of POPs compounds globally in 2008. There are thirteen POPs compounds listed in the convention and nine of them come from agricultural insecticides, namely DDT, Dieldrin, Aldrin, Endrin, Heptachlor, Lindan, Chlordane, Mirex, and Toxafen. The residue POPs in the environment can experience the dynamic distribution due to the process of biology, physics, and chemistry. The research objective was to determine the residual level and dynamics of changes in POPs compounds in agricultural land of shallot in parts of Wanasari subDistrict, Brebes Regency at coordinates 109.025206 EL and - 6.932594 SL covering an area of 2,374.1 ha. The research took place between January 2020 - April 2021. The research began with soil sampling in the field using the grade method, analysis of POPs compound residues using the SNI 06-6991.1-2004 method, time series data onto literature studies, and mapping the distribution of POPs compounds spline interpolation method of ArGIS 10.4 program. The results of measurements of POPs compounds in soil samples from the field in 2020 showed DDT, Dieldrin, and Lindan residues ranging from <LoD (very light pollution category) to >BMR (high-very high category). On the lands of shallot in Wanasari there was a change in the distribution of POPs during 2017-2020 in the six POPs compounds observed (DDT, Aldrin, Dieldrin, Endrin, Heptachlor, and Lindan). The study area had high-very high POPs contamination status reaching> 30% for the four years of observation (2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020). To reduce the residue of POPs compounds in shallot fields, remediation can be done (bioremediation, phytoremediation, and chemoremediation).
