Abstract

Industri kertas merupakan kegiatan yang dapat menimbulkan dampak besar terhadap kualitas sumber daya alam. Banyaknya jumlah air yang digunakan berdampak pada produksi limbah cair yang dihasilkan. Limbah cair yang tidak terolah dapat menyebabkan pencemaran baik pada badan air maupun tanah sehingga diperlukan proses pengolahan pada limbah tersebut. PT Z adalah salah satu industri kertas yang ada di Indonesia berlokasi di Dusun Sanggrahan, Desa Mungkid, Kecamatan Mungkid, Kabupaten Magelang. Industri ini bergerak dalam bidang daur ulang kertas dan menggunakan kardus bekas sebagai bahan baku produksinya. Limbah cair yang dihasilkan industri ini diolah di Instalasi Pengolahan Air Limbah (IPAL) dengan memadukan antara pengolahan fisika, kimia dan biologi. Kendala yang kadang ditemui di dalam IPAL adalah hasil effluent yang melebihi baku mutu Perda Jateng No. 5 Tahun 2012. Hal ini jika tidak diatasi maka akan mencemari lingkungan dan mempengaruhi kesehatan masyarakat sekitar industri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi kualitas air limbah yang dihasilkan, mengevaluasi kinerja IPAL serta untuk mengetahui persepsi masyarakat terhadap IPAL tersebut. Dari penelitian akan dihasilkan rekomendasi langkah perbaikan mengoptimalkan kinerja IPAL untuk memenuhi baku mutu yang telah ditetapkan serta persepsi masyarakat terhadap pengelolaan IPAL PT Z.

The paper industry is an activity that can have a major impact on the quality of natural resources. The large amount of water used has an impact on the production of liquid waste produced. Untreated liquid waste can cause pollution to both water bodies and soil, so a treatment process for the waste is required. PT Z is one of the paper industries in Indonesia located in Dusun Sanggrahan, Desa Mungkid, Kabupaten Magelang. This industry is engaged in recycling paper and using used cardboard as raw material for its production. The liquid waste produced by this industry is processed in the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) by combining physical, chemical and biological processing. The problem that is sometimes encountered in WWTP is the result of effluent that exceeds the quality standard of the Peraturan Daerah Provinsi Jawa Tengah Number 5 of 2012. If this is not resolved, it will pollute the environment and affect the health of the community around the industry. This study aims to evaluate the quality of the waste water produced, evaluate the performance of the WWTP and to determine the public perception of the WWTP. The research will produce recommendations for improvement steps to optimize the performance of WWTP to meet the quality standards that have been set as well as public perceptions of PT Z's WWTP management.
