Abstract

Bacteriuria Analysis of Indwelling Catheterization 12 and 24 hours Following Caesarean Section: A Randomized Controlled Trial Study in Tertiary Hospital, Indonesia
Analisis Bakteruria pada Pemasangan Kateter 12 dan 24 jam Pasca Bedah Sesar : Sebuah Uji Klinis Terkontrol Secara Acak pada Rumah Sakit Tersier, Indonesia

Abstract
Objective : To analyze the differences in the incidence of bacteriuria along with the pattern of germs at catheter placement 12 and 24 hours after cesarean section.
Methods : Randomized controlled study, double-blinded from 28 July 2019 to 30 August 2020. All subjects were catheterized according to the Standard Operating Procedure in Kariadi Hospital, Indonesia. The urine specimen was collected with a female catheter.
Results: The incidence of bacteriuria in the control group (24 hours) and treatment (12 hours) were 22.9 % and 6.4%, respectively (P 0.02; RR 3.59; 95% CI). The most common bacteria found in the control groups was E. coli. Meanwhile, bacteria found in the study group were Enterococcus sp. (21.4%), Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, and Candida sp (7.1%).
Conclusion : Length of indwelling urinary catheterization following cesarean section is associated with the incidence of bacteriuria. Hence, catheterization with a shorter duration is recommended to ward off the risk of infection.
Keywords: cesarean section, bacteriuria, urine culture, germ colony
