Abstract

Lubis, Mega Laura. 2021. “Romance Aspect in Japan Popular Novels
Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami: Overview of Psychology of
Literature”. Undergraduate Thesis Indonesian Literature, Faculty of
Humanities, Diponegoro University Semarang. Thesis Advisors 1: Prof. Dr.

The object of the research is Norwegian Wood novel by Haruki Murakami,
published in Bahasa by PT Kepustakaan Populer Gramedia in 2017. The
purpose of this research are to describe the structural elements of fiction
story in Norwegian Wood novel; and romance aspect which representations
of Watanabe character in Norwegian Wood novel. Study of this research
based on two methods, that is structural method in order to reviewing
intrinsic on novel, and psychology of literature in order to reviewing
romance aspect which be found on Norwegian Wood novel .

The result of the study shows that the structure of fiction story in Norwegian
Wood novel including one main character, Watanabe, along with six
supporting characters. The plot applied is regressive. Meanwhile, according
to psychology of literature, especially romance aspect, consist from the love
component and the love form. Norwegian Wood novel has three love
component which is intimacy, passion and commitment. Aside from that,
love form in the course of Watanabe character is romantic love,
consummate love, liking, and infatuated love.
