Abstract

Elisia, Nisa Suci. 2025. “Antisocial Personality Disorder in the Main Character of
Shuhei in the Film Mother Directed by Director Tatsushi Omori”. Undergraduate
Thesis, Japanese Language and Cullture Study Program, Diponegoro University,
Semarang. Thesis Supervisor Fajria Noviana, S.S., M.Hum.
Individuals diagnosed with Antisocial Personality Disorder tend to
encounter difficulties in their social relationships, resulting in a more significant
negative impact compared to other personality disorders. Generally, individuals
exhibiting such behaviors are shaped by social factors that influence their conduct.
This study discusses the observational process in the formation of Antisocial
Personality Disorder in the character Shuhei Misumi in the film Mother. The issues
examined include the film’s narrative structure base on pratista, the representation
of Antisocial Personality Disorder base on Fox, and the observational process in

the formation of such behavior according base on Bandura. This descriptive-
qualitative library research employs a sociology of literature approach with a focus

on psychology of literature to analyze the psychological aspects within the film
Mother. The findings indicate that Shuhei meets 7 characteristic behaviors of
Antisocial Personality Disorder, including being manipulative, callousness,
deceitful, hostile, risk-taking, impulsive, and irresponsible. Shuhei’s behavior is
the result of an observational prpcess of deviant behavioral models from his mother
and his mother’s lover, consisting of four stages, attentional process, retention
process, motoric reproduction process, and motivational process.
