This study examines Gege Akutami’s manga Jujutsu Kaisen with the aim of
analyzing the visual signs of manga using Robin E. Brenner’s theory of visual
manga signs and exploring the structure and dynamics of the personality of Geto
Suguru through Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalytic theory. This research employs a
qualitative descriptive method with a literary psychology approach. The results of
this study indicate that Geto Suguru’s personality structure is influenced by three
main components: the id, ego, and superego, with the id being the most dominant
aspect that drives his actions to pursue personal gratification without considering
reality. In terms of personality dynamics, two instinctual drives were identified eros
(the life instinct) and thanatos (the death instinct) as well as two types of anxiety,
namely realistic anxiety and neurotic anxiety. These elements collectively reflect
the inner conflict and moral transformation experienced by the character Geto
Suguru.
