Abstract

Adisrsti, Farahdini. 2025. “The Translation of Honorific Language in
Manga Kusuriya no Hitorigoto.” Thesis. Department of Japanese Language and

This study aims to explain the translation techniques used in translating
sonkeigo and kenjogo in manga Kusuriya no Hitorigoto vol. 1-4, then identify the
equivalence between source language and.
In this study, data is collected using the note-taking technique. For the next
step, data will be analyze to find its original meaning using the distributional
method. After that, the original meaning will be translated into Indonesian and
analyze using the comperative method. The analysis of translation techniques uses
Molina and Albir’s theory, then the data is categorized based on Larson’s theory
of “lexical equivalents for unknown concepts”. The analysis use Kenji Matsura
Japanese-Indonesian dictionary and an online Japanese-English dictionary
jisho.org. To identify equivalence, Mizutani and Pranowo’s theory of politeness is
used. Data is presented in an informal manner by providing explanations in the
form of paragraphs.
Based on 75 data that have been analyzed, it can be concluded that from 18
translation techniques proposed, 11 techniques were used, with the most frequent
used of amplification technique. Translation equivalence resulted in three
categories of politeness: (1) equivalent 40%, (2) neutral 32%, and (3) not
equivalent 28%. The use of pronouns is the factor that influences the results of
equivalence the most.
