Abstract
This thesis aims to reveal the structure of the personality (id, ego, superego), anxiety, and ego defense mechanisms toward trauma experienced by Sophia Kingsley, the main character in the novel I Think I Love You, by applying Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theory. The intrinsic elements that are analyzed in this thesis are character and characterization, setting, and conflict. The researcher finds that Sophia Kingsley's structure of personality affects the way she expresses herself through anxiety and ego defense mechanisms. There is also an impact of this that affects Sophia's interactions with the people around her and her environment.
Keywords: character, setting, conflict, id, ego, superego, anxiety, defense mechanisms.
