Abstract
This thesis explores how beauty myth operates in several aspects of life on the character Willowdean Dixon in Julie Murphy’s Dumplin’. The theoretical framework is grounded in Naomi Wolf’s six-part model of the beauty myth, though the analysis found only three aspects appears in Willowdean’s life. The purposes of this thesis are identifying Willowdean’s personality traits, examining how the beauty myth appears and influences her life, and analyzing how she challenges and moves beyond it. The writer uses the library research method of data collection by taking primary and secondary data sources. The findings reveal that Willowdean’s journey reflects the harmful influence of the beauty myth on women’s personal lives and relationships, but also demonstrates the possibility of resistance.
