Abstract
This thesis analyzes how cultural capital reflected in Clueless (1995) refined taste in fashion, access to material luxuries, and strategic social behavior that aligns with Bourdieu’s three forms of cultural capital. Using Pierre Bourdieu’s theory of cultural capital, the study examines how cultural capital plays a major role in influencing how individuals are viewed and positioned in their social environment, especially in the context of teenagers life in high school. Cher Horowitz, the main character in the film, represents embodied cultural capital through her elfconfidence, fashion knowledge, and social behavior that makes her popular and respected in school. This capital not only strengthens her own social position, but also allows Cher to transfer this influence to Tai through the makeover process. This
film illustrates that cultural capital is an important capital in forming and negotiating identity and social mobility.
Keywords : cultural capital, Clueless (1995), American cultural values, teen film
