Abstract
This study centers around pain behind sweet love in the lyric of Taylor Swift’s “All Too Well” (10 Minute Version). The writer chose “All Too Well” because she found out that the lyric contains sweet kind of love, to the fact that it is painful. Because there is toxic relationship in this kind of love. This study is
intended to describe how the American singer expresses the pain through the lyric. In order to describe the value in American music, the writer adopts Richard Taylors’s concept of diction and figurative language. Besides that, she adopts Bell Hooks’s concept of sweet love. The writer applies Gabrielle Griffin’s method of textual analysis. The writer’s analysis comes in three stages. First, the analyzes of diction and irony. Second, the analysis of toxic relationship in sweet love. Third, relation between the diction and irony to the toxic relationship in sweet love. The analysis results in this study is to spread awareness the myth of drama in relationships.
