Abstract

This research thesis discusses how gender inequality is reflected in Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey (2020). The movie follows Harley Quinn’s struggle for independence after her breakup with the Joker. This research focuses on Harley Quinn as the main
character by analyzing the causes, the kinds, and the effects of gender inequality depicted through her experiences. The research approach used in this research thesis is
a feminist theory supported by radical feminism approach by Kate Millett. The method applied is library research, collecting primary data from the movie and secondary data from books, journals, and articles. The findings of this research thesis reveal that gender inequality in the film is caused by the loss of power and patriarchy and is reflected through specific types, such as sexual objectification and underestimation. These
inequalities lead to significant effects on the main character, including experiences of empowerment and the presence of misogyny. These elements highlight the challenges
women face in a male-dominated society and emphasize the importance of selfempowerment and resistance.
