Abstract
This research thesis discusses the characteristics, causes, and impact of American dream, focuses on the main character in Breaking Bad series. The objectives of this thesis are to analyze the characteristics, causes, and impact of American dream in
Breaking Bad series. The writer uses the American Studies approach supported with James Truslow Adams’s theory of American Dream. This research thesis gathers data by using library research for data collection. The primary data of this thesis is using script of the series Breaking Bad. Meanwhile, the secondary data of this thesis is taken from journals, books, and online sources. The result of this research thesis shows the intrinsic aspect that discusses the main character’s conflict and the settings of the series. The extrinsic aspect discusses about the causes and impacts of the American dream. The causes of American dream consist of, financial motivation, chance for greater freedom, chance for self-expression, and chance for
personal growth. Furthermore, the impacts of American dream consist of motivation for hard work, personal growth, and economic growth.
