Abstract
The elderly, who are key targets in public health services, encounter various challenges, such as hypertension. Uncontrolled hypertension in this demographic leads to numerous complications and significantly diminishes their quality of life. Integrated Primary Health Services, or Integrasi Layanan Primer (ILP), represents one of the government's initiatives to address hypertension among the elderly. The ILP program seeks to bring health services closer to the community by leveraging a network of primary health facilities, bolstered by the support of qualified human resources, such as cadres, which could be a strategic move to enhance the health of the elderly. This study aimed to demonstrate how education about hypertension can empower elderly cadres and strengthen the ILP. The pilot study employed a pre-test and post-test design using the Hypertension Knowledge Level Scale (HK-LS) questionnaire, which consists of 22 items. The Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test yielded an Asymp.Sig-2 score of 0.01 (<0.05), indicating the impact of hypertension education on elderly cadres. The findings also revealed that the diet category, along with items related to medication and adherence, showed the most significant knowledge improvement among the cadres. Empowering elderly cadres highlights the impact of their knowledge in providing community-based information, facilitating better communication on managing hypertension in the elderly. This enhancement in knowledge serves as strategic capital for reinforcing the ILP program at the community level, thereby supporting community health programs more effectively and sustainably.
