Abstract

Indonesia is currently confronted with numerous challenges in fulfilling its national energy requirements. Approximately 60% of the nation's electricity generation is reliant on coal, underscoring the necessity to diminish this reliance in order to achieve energy equilibrium, bolster energy resilience, and foster the development of sustainable renewable energy sources. This study assesses the viability of investing in off grid solar rooftop systems, taking into account technical performance, environmental implications, and economic factors, including installation expenses and potential energy savings. The findings indicate that the design and implementation of the off grid rooftop solar power system operate effectively, achieving a performance ratio (PR) of 83.22%, which surpasses the anticipated benchmark of 70%. Furthermore, the system is capable of generating an average annual electricity output of 5,572 kWh. This off grid rooftop solar power system significantly contributes to the reduction of carbon emissions at the research site, mitigating 50,531 tons of CO2e within a year, aligning with the environmental objectives of the study. The off grid rooftop solar power system at the Ash Yard Office represents a viable and economically advantageous investment, facilitated by the power cable connection to the Sumsel-8 coal-fired power plant and the utilization of 20kV medium voltage electricity from PLN. With a Payback Period of 19 years, this investment remains justifiable, as the Payback Period is shorter than the expected lifespan of the project.
