Abstract
Language acquisition is an important part of a human's life. Language as a communication and social interaction that a person must have a good grip from an early age. Language acquisition starting early will enchance the quality of human life to support aspects of social interaction. This study aims to discover the systems of language acquisition due to audio-visual media on toddlers and the comparison of language acquisition of toddlers by gender. This study uses psycholinguistic theory, with auxiliary science phonological to describe sound transformation, and cognitive theory on language acquisition. This research is a type of qualitative. The method of providing data used the observation method, which is conducted by behold and observing language behavior in pronunciation occurrence. Data on the study were obtained from the pronunciation of toddlers 2-4 years old at PAUD Soka Indah. In this study, 55 vocabularies were presented which were divided into five categories, such as; names of animal, fruit, vegetable, transportation, and various colors This study uses SLC technique, where the researchist participates at the same time listening conversation, along with recording and note-taking techniques.
The results of the researchreveal that the capability of toddlers language is have many variations. There are several variations of sound transformation such as, assimilation, apheresis, syncope, and apocope in the pronunciation of vocabulary. Family and the environment are supporting factors in vocabulary enrichment. Boys have more sound transformation in acquiring vocabulary, while girls pronounce more vocabulary in their entirety and tend to be obvious than boys.
