Kurnia, Gita Mileni. 2024. “Variety of Joseigo (Female Language) by
Transgender Characters in the Talk Show This Is Me!!!”. Thesis, Bachelor of
Japanese Language and Culture Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences,
Diponegoro University. Supervisor: Reny Wiyatasari, S.S., M.Hum.This thesis
discusses the variety of joseigo used by transgender characters in the talk show
This Is Me!!!. The purpose of this study is to describe the characteristics and
factors behind the use of joseigo by transgender characters. The data used in this
study comes from the This Is Me talk show. The data collection employed a
listening method, using a basic technique of tapping and an advanced technique
of note-taking. The data were analyzed using intralingual and extralingual
pairing methods, and were then presented informally in the form of ordinary
words.Based on the data analysis, it is concluded that the characteristics of
joseigo used by transgender individuals include the use of shuujoshi and
kandoushi, a distinct use of keigo, a tendency to use a relatively high tone,
variations in intonation while speaking, and the selection of typical female words.
The primary background factors influencing this usage are situational and
interactional contexts, as well as the topics of conversation.
