Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan phubbing dengan kecerdasan emosional pada remaja di SMAN 3 Bekasi. Phubbing merupakan perilaku online bermasalah berupa mengabaikan orang lain dengan menggunakan smartphone. Kecerdasan emosional adalah kemampuan individu mengelola emosinya dengan kecerdasan, menjaga kesesuaian emosi dan pengungkapannya lewat motivasi diri, keterampilan kesadaran diri, pengendalian diri, keterampilan sosial, dan empati. Phubbing diukur menggunakan Skala Phubbing (14 aitem, α = 0.840), sedangkan kecerdasan emosional diukur menggunakan Skala Kecerdasan Emosional (30 aitem, α = 0.908). Penelitian melibatkan 264 remaja di SMAN 3 Bekasi sebagai subjek yang dipilih berdasarkan teknik cluster random sampling. Analisis regresi linear sederhana menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hubungan negatif dan siginifikan antara phubbing dengan kecerdasan emosional pada remaja di SMAN 3 Bekasi (rxy = -0.397; p = 0.001 (p < 0.05)). Artinya, ketika remaja sering melakukan phubbing, maka kecerdasan emosional yang dimilikinya akan buruk. Begitu sebaliknya. Phubbing memberikan sumbangan efektif terhadap kecerdasan emosional sebesar 15.7% dan 84.3% sisanya dipengaruhi oleh faktor lain yang tidak diteliti dalam penelitian ini. Hasil penelitian juga menemukan terdapat perbedaan kecerdasan emosional berdasarkan jenis kelamin dan berdasarkan intensitas penggunaan smartphone.

This study aims to determine the relationship between phubbing and emotional intelligence among adolescents at SMAN 3 Bekasi. Phubbing is a problematic online behavior characterized by ignoring others through smartphone use. Emotional intelligence is an individual’s ability to manage their emotions intelligently, maintain emotional appropriateness and expression through self-motivation, self-awareness skill, self-regulation, social skills, and empathy. Phubbing was measured using the Phubbing Scale 14 items, α = 0.840), while emotional intelligence was measured using the Emotional Intelligence Scale (30 items, α = 0.908). The study involved 264 adolescents from SMAN 3 Bekasi, selected through cluster random sampling. Simple linear regression analysis showed a negative and significant relationship between phubbing and emotional intelligence among adolescents at SMAN 3 Bekasi (rxy = -0.397; p = 0.001 (p < 0.05)). This means that the more frequently adolescents engage in phubbing, the poorer their emotional intelligence tends to be, and vice versa. Phubbing contributes 15.7% to emotional intelligence, while the remaining 84.3% is influenced by other factors not examined in this study. The results also revealed differences in emotional intelligence based on gender and the intensity of smartphone use.
