Abstract

ABSTRACT

Wardani, Pristica Pratiwi Kusuma, "Adaptation of the Short Story "Jigokuhen"
「地獄変」by Akutagawa Ryuunosuke into the Anime Aoi Bungaku Episode 12
by Ishizuka Atsuko (A Comparative Literature Study)", Thesis, Department of
Japanese Language and Culture, Faculty of Humanities, Diponegoro University,
Supervisor Yuliani Rahmah, S.Pd., M.Hum.
The short story "Jigokuhen" tells about the ambition of a famous Japanese painter
named Yoshihide to create a perfect painting of hell. The purpose of this research
is to examine the intrinsic structures in the short story "Jigokuhen" including plot,
characterization, setting, theme and messages, and the point of view, as well as to
examine the substractions, addition, and varied changes that exist in the anime
adaptation version, Aoi Bungaku. The theories used in this research are Burhan
Nurgiyantoro's fictional structural theory and Linda Hutcheon's adaptation theory
which is also added with some points from Pamusuk Eneste's ecranization theory.
This research is a qualitative study using the comparative method as the main
method and the structural method as a supporting method. The results of this study
are three substractions including one character substraction and two setting
substractions, five additions including two plot additions, one characterization
addition, and two setting additions, and thirteen varied changes including four
varied changes in plot, three varied changes in characterization, five varied changes
in setting, and one varied change in story point of view.
