Abstract
ABSTRACT
Domestic waste, a byproduct of human activities, has significant impacts on both public health and the environment. In Klaten Regency, the landfill is at risk of reaching full capacity, already 70% filled, with food waste comprising 60% of the incoming waste, particularly in the Ceper and Karanganom sub-districts. To
mitigate this issue, a food waste processing system is proposed for the 3R waste processing site, aiming to reduce waste sent to the landfill. An environmental impact analysis was conducted using the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) method and multi-criteria analysis with the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), evaluating three alternative processing technologies: Vermicomposting, Anaerobic Digestion,
and Black Soldier Fly (BSF). Among these, BSF demonstrated the lowest environmental impact, with minimal contributions to global warming potential (2.84 x 10-2 kg CO2 eq), ozone depletion (2.76 x 10-10 kg CFC-11 eq), acidification (6.46 x 10-3 kg SO2 eq), and eutrophication (8.52 x 10-4 kg PO4 eq), followed by
Vermicomposting and Anaerobic Digestion. AHP analysis, based on criteria including minimal land use, low operational costs, ease of operation, and community preference, ranked BSF highest with a score of 49.1%, followed by Vermicomposting and Anaerobic Digestion. Furthermore, financial analysis using BEP, NPV, and IRR showed that the project offers a profitable investment opportunity.
