Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengolah air limbah industri kertas (kemasan box) dengan menggunakan kombinasi proses elektrokoagulasi, flokulasi, sedimentasi, dan elektro-Fenton. Percobaan dilakukan secara kontinyu dengan memvariasikan arus (5-10A), waktu tinggal (2,7-8 menit) untuk proses elektrokoagulasi dan arus (5-10A) untuk elektro-Fenton. Air limbah PT XYZ mengandung BOD5 sebesar 363,5 mg/L, COD 2.172,63 mg/L, TSS 2.248 mg/L dengan warna air limbah kehitaman.Penyisihan warna, COD dan TSS terbaik pada proses elektrokoagulasi diperoleh dengan kondisi operasional arus 10A dengan waktu tinggal pengolahan 8 menit yang kemudian dilanjut dengan proses elektro-Fenton dengan arus 10A, namun jika dilihat dari kesesuaian dengan pemenuhan peraturan dan biaya pengolahannya kondisi pengolahan dengan waktu tinggal 2,7 menit memiliki kualitas pengolahan akhir air limbah yang telah memenuhi kriteria dengan nilai BOD5 88 mg/L, COD 156 mg/L, TSS 46 mg/L dengan warna air yang bening. Konsumsi energi metode kombinasi ini 1,9 kali lebih besar dibandingkan dengan kondisi eksisting, namun pada penggunaan bahan sekali pakai memiliki nilai 2,5 kali lebih rendah. Dengan demikian, kombinasi teknologi elektrokoagulasi dan elektro-Fenton merupakan alternatif yang menjanjikan untuk meningkatkan kualitas pengolahan air limbah industri kertas.

This study aims to treat wastewater from the paper industry (box packaging) using a combination of electrocoagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, and electro-Fenton processes. The experiment was carried out continuously by varying the current (5-10A), residence time (2.7-8 minutes) for the electrocoagulation process and current (5-10A) for electro-Fenton. Wastewater from PT XYZ contains BOD5 of 363.5 mg/L, COD 2,172.63 mg/L, and TSS 2,248 mg/L with black color. The best color, COD and TSS removal in the electrocoagulation process was obtained with operational conditions of current 10A, a residence time of 8 minutes, which was then continued with the electro-Fenton process with a current of 10A, but when viewed from the compliance with the regulations and processing costs, the condition with a current 10A and residence time of 2.7 minutes has a final wastewater treatment quality that has met the criteria with a BOD5 value of 88 mg/L, COD 156 mg/L, TSS 46 mg/L with clear water color. The energy consumption of this combination method is 1.9 times greater than the existing conditions, but the use of disposable materials has a value of 2.5 times lower. Thus, combining electrocoagulation and electro-Fenton technologies is a promising alternative to improve the quality of paper industry wastewater treatment.
