Abstract
This study explores the transformative impact of globalization and information technology on consumer behavior, particularly in online transactions. It discusses the challenges posed by online fraud, especially on platforms like Instagram, where fake accounts can deceive consumers. The analysis emphasizes the importance of Indonesia's consumer protection laws, particularly Law No. 8 of 1999, which aims to safeguard consumer rights in the digital era. Utilizing a utilitarian perspective, the study highlights the necessity of legal frameworks that maximize benefits for consumers while holding electronic system organizers accountable for their operations. It further examines the PS Store fraud case, illustrating the judicial process and the need for effective dispute resolution mechanisms. The court’s verdict in this case not only aimed to penalize the perpetrators but also sought to restore justice for the victims through legal certainty and deterrence against future offenses. Ultimately, the findings advocate for stronger protections of consumer rights in the evolving digital marketplace, emphasizing that laws should promote societal well-being and safeguard individuals' rights against the risks associated with online transactions.
