Abstract

The ability to speak English is one of the crucial skills in today's era. This is because English is an
international language. Since many jobs and top universities require English proficiency, many
people are flocking to learn English, especially speaking. Typically, they go to English learning
centers. There is an English learning center located in East Java, called Kampung Inggris, where the
researcher is one of the tutors at one of the courses there, namely Mr. Bob Kampung Inggris. Mr Bob
is one of the largest language course institutions in Kampung Inggris, and the researcher has been
working there since 2019. Therefore, a sample was found that students often feel anxious when
speaking in front of the class and lack confidence. This is the basis for creating the Speak Up 1
module. This module serves as a learning resource for students at the A2 level. During the teaching
process, the researcher discovered a problem among students when they speak English. A sample
revealed that students often feel anxious when speaking in front of the class and lack confidence. This
led to the research resulting in a module called Speak Up 1. The research utilized the research and
development method. Data collection involved triangulation through direct observation, distributing
questionnaires, and teaching directly in over 20 classes at Mr. Bob Kampung Inggris. After testing
with several students, other teachers, division heads, and members of the general public interested in
language, it was found that the Speak Up 1 module effectively facilitates student speaking practice,
boosts confidence, and reduces speaking anxiety.
