Abstract

Patra Semarang Hotel & Convention is a four-star hospitality industry engaged in
accommodation and convention services. The hospitality industry plays an important role
in tourism. With the rapid development of tourism, both local and international guests come
to the hotel. Patra Semarang Hotel & Convention offers an on-the-job training (OJT)
program for students to gain experience in the hospitality industry, including the Food and
Beverage Department. The Food and Beverage Department is divided into two parts:
Product and Service. The Food and Beverage Service is responsible for providing guest
services in the restaurant and room service. Patra Semarang Hotel & Convention expects
trainees to have the ability to communicate in English, as it is important for service
positions to understand guest needs and build good relationships. However, trainees are
still having difficulty communicating in English. The purpose of this research is to explain
the importance of this bilingual guidebook for interns in the Food and Beverage Service.
Additionally, it aims to explain the process of creating the bilingual guidebook using the
Research and Development (R&D) method by Borg and Gall. The researcher will only use
eight of the ten Research and Development methods. This research uses observation,
interviews, documentation, and questionnaires as data collection techniques. The product
of this research is a bilingual guidebook containing expressions, conversation examples,
and vocabulary according to the job descriptions in the Food and Beverage Service. The
bilingual guidebook has been tested in the Food and Beverage Service Department with 15
respondents. Based on the final assessment results, the bilingual guidebook is considered
suitable for use by interns in the Food and Beverage Service at Patra Semarang Hotel &
Convention.
