Abstract

This research aimed to develop a bilingual guidebook for intern journalists at
JatimTIMES.com, an online news platform in East Java, Indonesia, to enhance their news
writing and translation skills. The guidebook was created using a systematic Research and
Development (R&D) approach, which included stages of research and information
collection, planning, develop preliminary form of product, prelimineray field testing, main
product revision, operational field testing, final product revision, dissemination and
implementation. Feedback from academic and industry experts was incorporated at each
stage to ensure the guidebook met educational and practical standards. Preliminary and
operational testing with respondents provided positive feedback on the guidebook's content
and design. A Likert-scale questionnaire showed strong agreement on the guidebook’s
effectiveness, with the smallest interval value of 3.26 indicating no linguistic errors and the
highest value of 3.66 reflecting the guidebook's visually appealing layout. No respondents
disagreed with the statements, indicating consensus on the guidebook’s quality. Ready for
deployment at JatimTIMES.com, it serves as a valuable resource for the professional
development of intern journalists, significantly supporting journalistic training and
practice.
