Abstract
Tourism is the largest industry in Indonesia, and hotel is one of its types. The hotel industry in Semarang is growing rapidly to facilitate accommodation for tourists. Therefore, it needs human resources to fulfill standards through internship programs. Patra Semarang Hotel & Convention as a four-star hotel in Semarang, provides an On the Job Training (OJT) program, one of which is the Food and Beverage Service Department which serves guests directly in the restaurant. However, the trainees have difficulties communicating with
foreign guests due to a lack of English skills. The aim of this research is to describe the importance of a bilingual guidance book for Food and Beverage Service trainees at Patra Semarang Hotel & Convention and to describe the process of creating a bilingual guidance book for Food and Beverage Service trainees at Patra Semarang Hotel & Convention. This research used the Research and Development method by Borg and Gall and only conducted eight processes because of limitations on time, including research and information collecting, planning, developing preliminary form of product, preliminary testing, main product revision, main product testing, final product revision, and dissemination and implementation. The research data were collected using several techniques, namely observation, interviews, documentation, and questionnaires. The result of this research is a bilingual guidance book product that includes expressions, conversation examples, and
vocabulary. It also has a QR code containing audio and video of conversation examples. The bilingual guidance book product has proven appropriate for use and implementation by the Food and Beverage Service Department trainees at Patra Semarang Hotel & Convention.
