Abstract
For centuries, the United Kingdom of England and Northern Ireland has relied
heavily on fossil fuels to safeguard its state of energy security for Britain’s
public. However, in light of dwindling global fossil fuel reserves and the global
shift towards more elevated social, economic, and environmental standards, this
dependency has become increasingly untenable. Recent challenges, such as
Brexit and the Russian Federation's invasion of Ukraine, have further
complicated the United Kingdom’s ability to achieve an adequate energy supply.
In the effort to maintain energy security and advancing towards renewable and
sustainable energy, the role of the British private sector is pivotal in achieving a
faster transition and long-term energy security. This analysis will focus on the
role of the British energy private sector notably INEOS in helping His Majesty’s
government in their effort for energy security. To further uncover this matter, the
analysis will use the energy security concept, especially with 4 As (availability,
affordability, accessibility, and acceptability) alongside with Sustainable Energy
Development concept will be used for this research. The key to success is to find
the perfect balance of collaboration between the government as the regulator and
the British energy private sector as the executors. Through active collaboration,
the UK can accelerate its path toward energy resiliency while also being mindful
of future energy sustainability.
Key words: Energy Security, British Private Sectors, Sustainable Energy
