Abstract
Human beings can’t be separated from interactions with others, making it essential to build a good relationships with their environment. Interpersonal relationships that an individual builds are influenced by the roles of parents during their developmental stages. However, a current phenomenon is the lack of fathers involvement in child-rearing, leading to a condition known as fatherless, which is often a result of divorce. The impact of fatherless can be observed when individuals begin to explore the world or enter the emerging adulthood stage. This study aims to understand the experiences of interpersonal relationships with fathers among fatherless women. The research uses a qualitative method with an Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) approach. Participants were selected through purposive sampling, with criteria including women aged 18-25 years who were willing to participate. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews. The analysis revealed ten superordinate themes across participants: (1) Understanding the reasons for parental divorce, (2) Awareness of experiencing fatherlessness, (3) Trauma resulting from fatherless, (4) Efforts to overcome trauma caused by fatherless, (5) Broken relationship with the father post-divorce, (6) The process of rebuilding the relationship with the father, (7) Current views on the relationship with the father, (8) Relationships with other family members (biological/step), (9) Disrupted relationships with the opposite sex, and (10) Peer support. The findings indicates that participants face various dynamics in achieving a good relationship with their fathers, which also impacts their relationships with others (family, friends, and partners).
