Abstract

Phoneme dissapearance is one case of pronunciation irregularities in children with
Down Syndrome. Phoneme dissapearance in Down syndrome children has different
patterns, depending on the level of difficulty and accompanying language disorder.
It is also caused by difference in disorders in the central nerves. This study aims to
describe the type and position of phoneme dissapearance in Down Syndrome
children and language disorders that cause in phoneme dissapearance. The
informants in this study amounted to 5 children with Down Syndrome in SLB N
Semarang.
This study is used psycholinguistic approach and phonological theory, and
the type of research is qualitative research in descriptive form. The data collection
were taken by observation and interview using the method ‘simak libat cakap’ and
recording techniques and writing techniques. The data analysis stage uses ‘agih’
methods and ‘lesap’ techniques. The informants's speech is transcribed
phonologically and then determines the sensory or motor nerves that caused in the
vagueness of speech, namely phoneme dissapearance. The results showed that
phoneme dissapearance in children with Down Syndrome occurs at the beginning
of the word, middle of the word, end of the word, beginning and middle of the word,
middle and end of the word, and the beginning and end of the word. While language
disorders that cause vagueness of speech in children with Down Syndrome are
disartria, oral aprachsia, and speech and special language impairment (SLI).
