Abstract
The rapid development of global technology can trigger the rapid spread of
information. Information is disseminated through the media, including the mass
media. The language used is also different. Usually journalists use their own
language style in the writing of a news story. One type of language style that is
often used by writers is metaphorical compounds. Metaphors can be found in news
magazines, one of which is the weekly news magazine Tempo. The purpose of this
study is to: 1. analyze the proof of the form of metaphorical lingual majas units
contained in tempo magazine edition June 1-7, 2020, and 2. analyze the type,
function, and meaning of metaphorical majas expressions contained in tempo
magazine edition June 1-7, 2020.
This research includes a type of qualitative research. The method of data
collection in this study is a method of listening with the recording technique. The
data in the analysis uses the method of agih with techniques for direct elements
(BUL), followed by the technique of changing the technique of changing ujud
(paraphras). In addition, the data is also analyzed using referential methods.
Presentation of the results of data analysis in this study using informal techniques.
The results of the study indicate that the lingual unit forming a monomorphous
metaphor consists of categories of nouns, verbs, and adjectives. While the
polymorphic form consists of the word berafiks and the word compound. Based on
its semantic field, the acquired metaphor consists of metaphor of being, metaphor
of energy, metaphor of terrestrial, metaphor of object, metaphor of living, metaphor
of human, metaphor of species to species, metaphor of analogy, and metaphor of
sinaestetic. The acquired metaphor functions include informative functions,
expressive functions, and directive functions. There are two types of metaphorical
meanings obtained from this study, namely straightforward meaning and
figuratively meaning. The metaphorical meaning in this study is dominated by the
meaning of figuratively.
