Abstract
Amrullah, Ilham. 2021. “The Use of Denotation and Connotation Forms in Nadiem
Makarim's Myths in the #Closethedoor Corbuzier Podcast (Roland Barthes
Semiotics Study)”. Undergraduate Thesis of the Faculty of Humanities,
Diponegoro University, Semarang. Advisor I: Drs. Ary Setyadi, M.S. and Advisor

Signs are always around humans, especially when it comes to language. The
development of language into various media does not eliminate the sign, it also
contributes to the development of the sign. One form of language development into
the media is podcasts. Podcasts have become a popular medium among young
people to obtain information. #Closethedoor Corbuzier Podcast is the leading
podcast in providing information regarding the situation in society. During the
pandemic and the busy educational polemic, Nadiem Makarim was a guest star to
describe the various polemics that existed. The purpose of this study is to analyze
the signs that appear in Nadiem Makarim's speech.
Provision of data using the listening method with the basic techniques of
tapping techniques and advanced techniques of free-involvement-talking listening
techniques, then recording techniques and note-taking techniques. Data analysis
used the matching method combined with the semiotic theory of Roland Barthes.
Roland Barthes' semiotic theory is used to analyze the denotation, connotation, and
myth of the identified signs. Presentation of the results of data analysis using
informal techniques.
The results of the study show that the denotation and connotation of the sign
are not only in the form of words, but also combinations of words. Then, there is no
need to change the shape of the marking from the I marker to the connotator
because the denotative meaning of the I marker has been explained according to
the dictionary. In the second layer of signs, connotators provide the potential to
bring up different messages, namely in the form of connotations and myths. Myths
represent people's mindsets because myths grow based on people's views of the
current situation in their environment.
