Abstract

Alyssa, Raniah. 2023. ”Cultural Adaptation Experienced by Indonesian Caregivers in Facing Culture Shock while Working in Japan”. An undergraduate thesis of Japanese Language and Culture Studies, Faculty of Humanities, Diponegoro University. Arsi Widiandari, S,S., M.Si. as thesis advisor.
This research aimed to describe the culture shock experienced by Indonesian caregivers working in Japan, as well as to understand how they adapt to dealing with the culture shock. The method used in this research is qualitative descriptive analysis with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews with two Indonesian caregivers. The theory used in this research is the stages of cultural adaptation theory to analyze the adaptation process. The results show that both informants experienced culture shock in different areas. The first informant experienced culture shock related to the fashion field while working at her workplace. Meanwhile, the second informant experienced culture shock in an area related to the rule of not making noise in the place where he lived, resulting in the informant being visited by security officers. The final result of cultural adaptation for the first informant is Full Participation, while for the second informant, it is Accommodation.
