Abstract

In environments dominated by males, female adolescent often experience significant emotional conflicts regarding male figures as they begin to question specific gender roles for women. These emotional conflicts can influence the formation of attitudes toward gender roles and potentially support gender inequality. Through the concept of father involvement, fathers as the primary male figures for female adolescent play a crucial role in the process of forming attitudes toward gender roles. This study aims to empirically examine the relationship between father involvement and gender role attitudes among female adolescents in high school. Population of the study consisted of female adolescents in grades 10, 11, and 12, with 404 students in total. This research involved 100 participants selected using proportionate stratified random sampling techniques. Data were collected using modified Likert scales, including father involvement scale (37 items, α = 0.964) and gender role attitudes scale (28 items, α = 0.919). Data analysis was conducted using simple regression analysis techniques with the IBM SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Science) Version 24 application. The results showed that father involvement has a significant and positive relationship with female adolescents’ gender role attitudes (R=0.360; p=0.000). This implies that the more positive female adolescent assess their father’s involvement, the more egalitarian their attitudes toward gender roles are.
