Variabiltas SPL dan klorofil-a di Perairan Indonesia dipengaruhi oleh adanya variabilitas iklim yaitu El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) yang juga berpengaruh terhadap kondisi angin. Penelitian mengenai pengaruh ENSO terhadap variabilitas SPL dan klorofil-a telah banyak dilakukan di Perairan Indonesia. Namun demikian, belum dilakukan penelitian secara mendalam di Laut Flores. Sehingga perlu dilakukan penelitian terkait pengaruh ENSO terhadap SPL dan klorofil-a di Laut Flores serta korelasi antarvariabel. Penelitian ini menggunakan data SPL dari OISST yang memadukan dua sensor yaitu MW dan IR, data blended klorofil-a dari OC-CCI v5.0 dan data angin dari ASCAT selama rentang waktu 14 tahun (2008-2021). Data tersebut selanjutnya diolah dengan bahasa pemrograman IDL untuk memperoleh distribusi klimatologi dan anomali pada periode ENSO berdasarkan nilai Ocean Nino Index (ONI). Respon SPL dan klorofil-a terhadap ENSO terdapat perbedaan antara musim timur dan barat. Saat La Niña pada musim timur nilai SPL mengalami kenaikan 0.3 – 0.5 ℃ dan diiringi penurunan klorofil-a sebesar 0.04 – 0.07 mg/m3, sedangkan pada musim barat terjadi penurunan SPL sebesar 0.1 – 0.2 ℃ dan peningkatan klorofil-a 0.002 – 0.02 mg/m. Pada periode El Niño saat musim timur terjadi penurunan nilai SPL sebesar 0.1 – 0.5 ℃ dan kenaikan konsentrasi klorofil-a sebesar 0.002 – 0.1 mg/m3, sedangkan pada musim barat nilai SPL mengalami peningkatan 0.2 – 0.7 ℃ dan nilai klorofil-a mengalami penurunan 0.02 – 0.05 mg/m3. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut diketahui bahwa ENSO memiliki korelasi yang kuat dengan SPL sedangkan korelasi klorofil-a tinggi di daerah tertentu seperti selatan Sulawesi Tenggara dan sebelah tenggara Laut Flores.

SST and chlorophyll-a variability in Indonesian waters is influenced by climate variability, namely El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) which also affects wind conditions. Many studies on the effect of ENSO on SST and chlorophyll-a variability have been carried out in Indonesian waters. However, in-depth research has not been carried out in the Flores Sea. So, it is necessary to do research related to the effect of ENSO on SST and chlorophyll-a in the Flores Sea and the correlation between variables. This study uses SST data from OISST which combines two sensors, namely MW and IR, blended chlorophyll-a data from OC-CCI v5.0 and wind data from ASCAT in 14 years (2008-2021). The data processed with the IDL programming language to obtain climatological distribution and anomalies while ENSO period based on the value of the Ocean Nino Index (ONI). The response of SST and chlorophyll-a to ENSO depends on the season. During La Niña in the east monsoon the SST value increases 0.3 – 0.5 ℃ and accompanied by a decrease in chlorophyll-a 0.04 – 0.07 mg/m3, while in the west monsoon there is a decrease in SST 0.1 – 0.2 ℃ and an increase in chlorophyll-a 0.002 – 0.02 mg/m. During the El Niño period during the east monsoon there was a decrease in the SST value 0.1 – 0.5 ℃ and an increase in chlorophyll-a concentration 0.002 – 0.1 mg/m, while in the west season the SST value increased 0.2 – 0.7 ℃ and the chlorophyll-a value decreased 0.02 – 0.05 mg/m3. Based on these results it is known that ENSO has a strong correlation with SST while the correlation of chlorophyll-a is high in certain areas such as south-east Sulawesi and southeast of the Flores Sea.
