Abstract

ABSTRAK
(Khairani Najibah Zansuryani. 26040119120009.

ABSTRACT
(Khairani Najibah Zansuryani. 26040119120009. Assessment of Carbon Uptake Potential in Caulerpa racemosa (Fost, 1974) and Gracilaria verrucosa (Gutsmuths, 1791) Seaweeds Cultivated in BBPBAP Jepara Ponds. AB Susanto and Gunawan Widi Santosa).
Seaweed requires carbon dioxide which is used in the process of
photosynthesis. The ability of seaweed to absorb CO2 makes seaweed have added value as an economic source and as a global environmental controller. However, the ability of seaweed as a CO2 absorbing agent is not widely known. This study aims to determine the amount of carbon sequestration from C. racemosa and G. verrucosa cultivation activities in BBPBAP ponds, Jepara which were carried out for 45 days. The area of C. racemosa and G. verrucosa seaweed cultivation ponds in BBPBAP ponds, Jepara is 3.2 and 0.84 km2. Water quality parameters tested include pH, temperature, salinity, nitrate and phosphate. The average test results of water quality parameters showed that the pH values of C. racemosa seaweed and G. verrucosa were 7.75 and 8 respectively, salinity 26 - 30 ppt and 25 - 30 ppt, temperatures 27o - 30oC and 27o - 33oC, nitrates 0 and 0.016 mg/l, phosphates 0.008 and 0 mg/l. The average results of seaweed sample analysis using gravimetric analysis methods on Caulerpa racemosa seaweed were obtained from analysis at the age of 30 and 45 days, namely water content 0.96 and 0.88, biomass 36.44 and 8.02, ash content 46.30 and 14.24, volatile substances 39.25 and 53.21, carbon content 13.48 and 31.68. While in Gracilaria verrucosa seaweed at the age of 45 and 60 days obtained water content of 0.96 and 0.63, biomass 17.86 and 6.96, ash content 31.69 and 15.39%, volatile substances 65.13 and 66.87, carbon content 2.22 and 17.11. The total carbon sequestration values in Caulerpa racemosa seaweed at 30 and 45 days of age were 121.16 and 5947.35 respectively. While the total value of carbon sequestration in Gracilaria verrucosa seaweed at the age of 45 and 30 days respectively 16.6 and 850.16.
