Abstract

ABSTRAK
(Abdan Faruq Amajid, 26020116130083, Kelimpahan Mikroplastiks

ABSTRACT
(Abdan Faruq Amajid, 26020116130083, Abundance of
Microplastics Based on Coral Lifeforms in the Protection and Utilization Zones of the Karimunjawa Islands, Jepara. Agus Sabdono and Diah Permata Wijayanti)

The Karimunjawa Archipelago is one of the National Park Areas in
Indonesia which consists of several zonings that are adapted to their functions and designations, namely the Core Zone, Protection Zone, Marine Utilization Zone. The Karimunjawa Islands are also one of the tourism destinations that present
underwater beauty such as coral reefs. Increased human activity and tourism can lead to high waste pollution. Microplastics are plastic particles that are small and have a size of less than 5 mm. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of microplastics to coral lifeforms in the protection and utilization
zones of the Karimunjawa Islands, Jepara. Coral samples were collected using a purposive random sampling method using SCUBA diving equipment in coral reef ecosystem areas with a depth of 3-5 meters. Coral samples were taken with a size of 1-3 cm. Sample processing is carried out in the laboratory by crushing. Coral samples were soaked using ZnCl2 solution and filtered with 0.45 μm Whatman paper. Microplastic observation using a 20x magnification binocular microscope and IC Measure software to identify the abundance and shape of microplastics. The results showed that Acropora coral (branching) had the highest microplastic abundance of 22.4 particles/gram, followed by Pocillopora coral (submassive) of 12.64 particles/gram, and the least in Favia coral (massive) of 11.67 particles/gram. Panjang and Karimunjawa National Park have no significant difference. The forms of microplastic particles found were films, fibers and fragments.
