Abstract

The abolition of English subjects affected students' English ability which
decreased. To overcome these problems, it is necessary to have an approach and
introduction to English with simple material and use appropriate learning media to
improve students' English language skills. Therefore, this research was conducted to add
English teaching materials as a new learning medium in the sixth grade. So, primary
school teachers can add insight and students' abilities can improve.
This research uses Research and Development (R&D). This study used seven
steps from modifying Sugiyono and Borg & Gall. The product produced is a picture book
containing explanations about animals and their ecosystem and has been validated by the
expert. However, there are still revisions regarding the use of language, which must be
changed so that students can easily understand it. After the revision, there was a trial
product carried out by the teacher and sixth-grade students. The trial product shows an
achievement level of 90% for teachers and 94% for students with designs in the very
worthy category and does not require revision.
It can be concluded that the product is eligible to use as supporting material in
sixth-grade English subjects. After the picture book product has gone through several
steps until it finally makes this book eligible to use, it will be printed with a size of 20 x
20 cm. Then it will be handed over to the English teacher in Primary School 2 Hj. Isriati
Baiturrahman, Semarang as supporting material for English lessons.
